Bamboo Grinding: A Possible Solution for Running Bamboo

When it comes to enhancing outdoor areas, bamboo stands out as a favored selection due to its aesthetic appeal and the advantages it offers for landscaping purposes. Furthermore, its rapid growth makes it a perfect choice for establishing privacy screens. It’s important to note that there are around 1500 distinct species of bamboo, mainly classified as clumping or running varieties. While dealing with clumping bamboo is typically straightforward, removing the running type can pose challenges and necessitate proper measures.

Eliminating Bamboo

To effectively remove bamboo, it’s important to implement proper strategies to control and eliminate its growth. Here are some steps to follow:

  1. To stop bamboo from spreading, it’s important to take care of the outer areas. You can stop its growth by cutting the underground stems (rhizomes) and removing any specific parts if needed.

  2. Trim the bamboo often: Regularly cut the rest of the bamboo to stop it from spreading too much. Use the right tools to trim the bamboo stems close to the ground and keep them well-maintained.

  3. Pick the perfect time: Spring is the best season to get rid of bamboo because it’s actively using its energy, which makes it easier to remove.

  4. Use weed-killing sprays on fresh growth: If you see new plant sprouts, spray weed-killing sprays on them several times and stay alert for any signs of new growth. Be careful when handling the sprays and wear protective gloves to protect your skin.

  5. Choose bamboo species that don’t spread too much or try planting them in pots if you don’t want them to take over your space. To make the best choice, seek advice from an expert.

By diligently implementing these steps, you can effectively address the issue of bamboo and comprehensively manage its growth.

Maintaining your bamboo

To control the growth of bamboo, you can use certain chemicals known as herbicides. These herbicides, like glyphosate or ones designed for grass, can be applied directly to fresh bamboo shoots. It’s crucial to use the herbicide repeatedly and remain vigilant for any new growth. Additionally, it’s advisable to keep your herbicide readily available whenever you need it.

However, it is crucial to be careful when using herbicides and to follow the instructions closely to minimize any potential dangers. Make sure to wear protective gloves and avoid any direct contact with your skin. Despite the difficulties involved in dealing with bamboo and getting rid of it, bamboo can still bring value to your garden.

Furthermore, not all types of bamboo grow uncontrollably; some varieties, known as clumping bamboo, stay contained in one area. This means that if you plant these types, they won’t spread uncontrollably. Therefore, it’s advisable to consult a gardening expert for assistance in selecting a bamboo variety that won’t overtake your property.

In addition, growing bamboo in a pot is a practical way to appreciate its beauty without it spreading too much in your yard. Many types of bamboo can thrive in big pots, giving you the flexibility to position them on your porch or in specific spots in your yard.

Bamboo Grinding Equipment

Our skilled team uses advanced stump grinding tools to quickly and successfully get rid of bamboo stumps from your property. These tools are designed to grind stumps and bamboo of different sizes, making sure that all traces of the bamboo’s roots are completely removed from the ground.

Bamboo Grinding and Removal Process

Removing bamboo involves two main steps: cutting it down and disposing of it. Additionally, planning for the area after removal, such as planting grass or a garden, is essential.

To remove bamboo rhizomes effectively and without spending too much money, we suggest using stump grinding. This method involves using a special machine with strong teeth made of tungsten carbide to grind and cut the roots. Our team makes sure to remove the rhizomes completely by following them underground up to 30 cm to 40 cm deep. However, there might be difficulties if the rhizomes have spread under fences, concrete, or garden edging. In those situations, we remain watchful, keep a close eye on the area, and apply a specific chemical called glyphosate to stop them from growing back.

The first step is to have a meeting to check the bamboo problem and make a personalized plan according to what the client wants and can afford. After the plan is ready, our team will go to the location and remove the bamboo stumps. We will be careful not to damage the nearby area and try our best to cause as little disturbance to the environment as possible.

I saw Jack’s post on Facebook and thought I’d give him a go. He turned up when he said he would and just got on with the job as discussed. He then confirmed my satisfaction with the job. I identified a bit that was missed and he sorted it out straight away without any fuss at all. I would have no hesitation recommending him to anyone. A really friendly chap to boot!! When I’m ready for more grinding I’ll certainly be back in touch.

Jack was very quick to respond to our request and very accommodating to our needs. He was able to remove two stumps for us the same day we contacted him. While on-site, Tom discovered a third, older stump we had missed and also removed it for a very reasonable additional fee without upselling or pressuring us.

Contacted Jack after he came recommended by a few different people. Communication was quick. I sent a few pics of what I wanted removed and he stopped out to look at the job for me. I received a quote the next day. From the quote to the finished job it was just a few short days. All in all about a week turn around which is impressive. This was a no BS transaction and Jack was straightforward with me. Thanks for getting it done.

A huge shout out to Jack & his team on making our life a hell of a lot easier so that we can now restore our property with more manageable trees and gardens. We had 13 med to large stumps around the boundary that Stumpworks Qld machinery ate up with ease. Jack and his workers were polite & had great work ethics as they left our property & our neighbours neat and tidy from timber chips and sawdust. Jack was reliable, prompt, considerate of our neighbouring properties.I would highly recommend Jack & his team as they definitely exceeded our expectations, we certainly feel that this was money well spent. My husband was going to dig the stumps out the old fashioned way and the look on his face when he saw the finished job was priceless. Jack, thank you!

We had a substantial amount of bamboo that needed grinding. His mindset was only out to help us and educate us on the removal, and due to the extensive price and size of the job also welcomed us to get other quotes. Jack provided us with the confidence that the others lacked. Jack and his team kept us in the loop the whole day and walked us through the job on completion. It's hard to find good trades these days. Credit to them and the way they look after their customers.

Stumpworks Qld was great from start to finish. They were quick to respond and gave me an estimate on the spot. It was less than I expected and better than anyone else I asked. The appointment was scheduled soon after the estimate and they showed up right on time. They were extremely kind and even carried my mother's groceries from her car to the house. They did an awesome job grinding the stumps and cleaning up. I don't typically leave reviews but had to for their great work and good vibes. I've also already recommended their service to 4 friends.
